Heb ik iets tegen eendjes?

Niet specifiek, maar vind ze wel grappig. Steven Seagull vind ik ook grappig, in tegenstelling tot Seagal. Die trouwens ooit getrouwd was met Kelly Lebrock (Zimbobs tienerfantasie-vrouw). Katey Sagal laat me warm noch koud, hoewel ze volgens mij wel een competente actrice is.

Genoeg Sagalekkes, was gisteren op een feest en de quote van de nacht was wel : "Pasta oep, want tentje Matille (88) wiltj den lambada dansen"

Ch-ch-ch-changes

Since I have been writing more and more about comics and the collecting of comics lately, I have been thinking about expanding this here blog. With a catalogue. A catalogue of my ever expanding collection of comics. Not only for bragging and boasting. ( Well, ok, some bragging involved, true.) It's for reference as well. When one starts the nasty habit of collecting, one tends to forget what one has already in his collection. I'm not talking about that ever so hard to find super rare comic, but some of the more mundane series. Often they'll have confusing nummerotations and parallel series. And for the love of god, who can keep track of the ever changing career choices of artists and writers? Therefor, a catalogue. A tool for me, an extra for you.

I also intend to review once in a while a comic, just for fun. But only when I believe I have something to say on the subject.

Does this mean the end of the cartoons? No. Hell no. Let me put it this way; the cartoons are a certainty, the comics are dependable of my mood and time.

So, when I'm finished constructing my virtual library (with thanks to Occy for his advice in the matter) you will be able to browse through them. But be careful, don't break any softcover-spines, and leave alone the dedicated ones, and oooh, don't this and aaah don't that...

Wat zit er op de i-pod van...

Mannekes, zondag zit ik een hele dag op het circuit van zolder, in de zetels van de Michel Vallaint Club met een drankje, aan het stuur van een Opel Antara Enjoy 2.0 Diesel 150 pk aan het offroaden (de 225 pk was al volzet) en als het gegund zou zijn in de passagierszetel van een Lotus. En dat allemaal dankzij Kristof, mijn zus haar vriend. Toffe gast he?

Review Storm: "de navel van de dubbele god" or "the navel of the double god"

Where to begin...

First of all, since my mom bought me "The last fighter" in the early nineties I've been smitten by Don Lawrence's artwork. So Romano Molenaar had some pretty big boots to fill when he took over the series. More so, because I wouldn't stand for hasty sloppy plagiarism. Neither one of the fans, as has been proven by the sales figures of the spin-off "Kronieken van de tussentijd". (actually spin-off is too much credit, let's call it by its name; a turd)

Did Molenaar deliver? Yes. Did he overdo it? Hmmm, slightly. I can't shake off the feeling that there isn't enough space on each page. Lawrence wasn't only a great artist, he knew how to let the artwork breathe. Yes there were a lot of details, but one could take his time to discover them, often missing them for quite some time, overlooking them. Molenaars details scream for attention, battle for it.

In his defense I have to say that "The navel of the double god" is a far better comic then "The Armageddon traveller", but that was a particular weak one. Also like the fact that Nomad for the second time in the series takes a more prominent role then the vain muscled sidekick we have come to love and cherish, "The return of the red prince" being the first one (which is also noticeable for a for a stark naked cast. Especially Ember. For several pages. Not that she's prone to wear much else but a belt and a necklace). And the fact that Molenaar has included some references to other Storm comics for those who can spot them.

Molenaar penciled Storm and Ember perfectly, Boforce has apparently been working out some more, but Nomad.... I don't know. His face seems to give Molenaar some difficulties.

The text balloons aren't always in sync with the lay-out as well.

Perhaps these are some growing pains. Do not forget the big boots.

Overall, a great Storm comic. As good as "Vandaahl the destroyer" or "The slayer of Eriban"? No, but better then most of them. Molenaar passed the test and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Geheimen

Niet veel tijd voor uitleg, de toon spreekt voor zichzelf. Vanavond meer uitleg.

Ok, vanavond werd de volgende dag, maar beloofd is beloofd. Deze cartoon is vanzelf ontstaan rond de tekening. Er rees wel een klein probleempje bij het benoemen van de pornoster, want blijkbaar zijn alle sterren die ik zo direct kan opnoemen (Asia Carrera, Jenna Jameson, Chasey Laine en Traci Lords) ook al allemaal een dagje ouder geworden. What can I say? Ik ben geen puber meer. Gelukkig is er nog steeds Wikipedia, waar je zelfs de pornosterren getalogeerd op haarkleur terugvindt. Vandaar Sylvia Saint. Ik heb nog nooit een enkele film van haar gezien. Maar wel van Asia Carrera, Jenna Jameson,....

Henry Rollins

I have to admit, I'm slightly obsessed with Henry Rollins. He's never falling-down-on-the-floor-clutching-your-groin-caus-you're-gonna-piss-your-pants-funny, but always entertaining, always correct and always 100 per cent sincere. Plus when a man with biceps the size of your head talks to you, you listen. Especially when he was in Black Flag. Let's hear his opinion on dating and reading:

FACTS 2007

Oh boy! Let's hope I'll be able to make it this year.

Goede tijden, slechte tijden.

Een goed cartoonist, of laat ons zeggen, een vooruitziend cartoonist, zorgt voor een reserve aan cartoons. Bij onvoorziene omstandigheden zoals ziekte, writer's block of kater pleurt hij gewoonweg een van zijn reserves te grabbel, en pakt zijn sores van dat moment aan.

Tot voor kort was ik niet zo'n cartoonist. Ik was het soort dat de ochtend van zijn deadline wanhopig staat te klungelen aan zijn p.c. om toch maar iets gepubliceerd te krijgen. Daarbovenop heb ik recent een zwaar geval van writer's block te verhapstukken gehad, waardoor ik zefs al mijn oude ideeën er door gejaagd had. Geen aangenaam gevoel. Steeds vreesde ik de deadline en begon te zweten als een otter. Just like old times.

Tot voor kort, inderdaad. Nu heb ik de laatste dagen een aantal cartoons getekend waar ik zeer tevreden over ben, zelf één of twee waar ik fier op ben.

Nu overvalt me echter een ander soort angst; wat als ... iemand anders hetzelfde idee krijgt en het eerder dan mij publiceert? Het is niet zo'n bizarre gedachte hoor, vraag maar aan deze jongen. Ooit hebben wij tesamen een hele reeks cartoons getekend over moslima's en smurfen, en Lectrr deed nadien hetzelfde. Maar hij heeft eerder gepubliceerd dan wij, heeft ons niet geplagieerd (hoe kon hij, ze waren nooit gepubliceerd) dus verdient hij alle eer. Meer nog, ik vind het een puik cartoonist en zijn vestimentaire keuzes steun ik. Ja, ook ik draag occasioneel in het dagelijks leven Hawaï-hemden. Iets op tegen?

Daarboven ben ik ook een aandachtshoer. Yup, ik geef het toe. Een blog, een groot bakkes, altijd de grappigen willen uithangen; de basispsychologie leert mij dat ik bovenal door iedereen graag gezien wil worden. Geen slecht gezelschap, er zijn er nog zo. Maar ik zit dus op een hele hoop funny shit die ik zo snel mogelijk wil publiceren om me te laten bewierroken.

Is er een oplossing voor? Neen. Gewoon voortdoen als anders. Elke zondag posten, en mijn aandachtshoereren temperen. En stoppen met zagen. Er zijn ergere dingen in de wereld.

Vervelend

Harry Potter en de woeste sabeltandtijger.

Not that my cartoon has anything to do with Harry Potter, but apparantly if you link that Hogwarthpunk to something, it attracts a lot more attention. So here goes: Dumbledore, secret chamber, sorting hat, Ford Anglia, and euhhhh,.....(that's about all I know 'bout it, sorry)

Vertaling: Prehistorisch terrorisme. "Wat probeert hij in godsnaam te bewijzen?" "Geen idee, hij zei iets over zichzelf opblazen!"
